Genesea Black-Lanouette

College of Professional Studies Representative

Experience and Personal Qualities

Serving on student government for both College of the Redwoods and Humboldt State has giving me a large set of skills which qualifies me for this position. At Humboldt State, I currently serve as the Representative of the College of Professional Studies. In this position, I organized the CPS Mixer for both the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 semesters, as well as ran and organized the A.S. social media pages. If re-elected I hope to continue my passion and enthusiasm for boosting student participation at campus events and encouraging involvement with student government.

While attending CR, I served as a Senator and again as Vice President in 2015/2016. In May of 2015, only Four out of twelve senate seats were filled and student involvement with campus events was almost nonexistent.  Working with my fellow council members, we developed a promotional strategy which boosted student participation at campus events and encouraged involvement with student government. When departing the senate in May of 2016, we developed five successful yearly events, filled all 12 senate seats, and added four more seats to the senate, developing more inclusive representation on the CR campuses.

At HSU, I am working on a degree in Recreation Administration/Tourism Management and a minor in Business Management/Marketing. After graduating I plan on attending a graduate program on Sustainable Tourism Management. After finishing school, my education will be used to develop creative and innovative events and programs for developing communities which foster positive social and economic development.

Outside of student government I am highly involved with coordinating community and school events, volunteer coordination, marketing and promotions, and campus clubs. During the spring and summer I work at multiple music festivals including: Reggae on the River, Northern Nights Music Festival, and High Sierra Music Festival.

If Elected How Will I Address Important Issues Facing Students Next Year?

The CSU system has a dynamic set of issues each year and it’s important to remember that issues are different for each student. If elected I will be available for students to discuss these issues. I plan on fully supporting the students of whom I have been elected to represent and I will do my best to represent the majority opinion. With my experience in event planning, various open forums will be hosted over the year to increase interactions between the students of the School of Professional Studies and myself.

Why Students Should Vote For Genesea

As a reentry/transfer student, I understand the challenges of balancing work life and school. Let me work for you to make sure your issues are heard and your potential to make a difference on campus is realized. Let me continue working with people about the issues they are passionate about so we can give students the power to make a difference. I am friendly, approachable and would like to use my enthusiasm to give you a voice on issues that matter to you the most.
